Week 49: White And Ready
Ældste Møller and I happened to stumble upon a positive young woman who was walking her whippet on the street. We had a nice conversation about what we've learned during "disse corona tider" and asked if she would like to learn something new. She surprisingly agreed and gave us her number. We asked her name and she said it was Alba. We were interested to know what her name meant, so we inquired of her. She said that it meant "hvid og klar", or "white and ready". You probably already imagined what went through our minds first when we heard that. That's right, we pictured her in white baptismal clothes ready to make a covenant with God. There's some missionary appropriate humor to brighten your day. ;)
If you're currently freaking out that we stopped someone on the street during this whack time, don't worry cause I'll explain. Since the cases of virus went dramatically down, Præsident Olsen gave us the green light to begin street contacting and door knocking once again after approximately 4 months of transitioning to an online mission. This was exciting news because it put us into a "hybrid" position, which functions by balancing online finding efforts and in-person finding efforts. I attempted street contacting with Ældste Hogge, our newly hired zone leader, and Ældste Kresge, our nearly retired assistant to the president, before I could even do it with my trainee, Ældste Møller. We honestly didn't stop too many people since we felt that our Danish was rusty but Hogge and I helped Per, a random man we met on the street, find his way to the train station. He wouldn't stop complimenting us for being generous and commenting that he could feel that we were Christian. We were grateful that at least someone saw us as Christians. He said that he'll be moving to Odense soon so we offered to help and got his number. Hopefully Møller and I will be there when he's moving.
Møller and I agreed to be 100% obedient this week and along with that came a few challenges and even more triumphs. We received some messages from girls who would like to date us and we kindly declined with an explanation of our purpose as missionaries. We received even more messages from people living all over the world, mostly in Africa and on the Faroe Islands for some strange reason, who would like to hear more about our beliefs. Møllers bike was stolen overnight and we were pretty bummed about that. Then, we experienced something so mind blowing - 4 people stopped US on the street in the span of 2 days. :o I'll compare this number to the number of people who stopped us on the street during my 6 months in Roskilde, just to show how odd this felt. I remember being stopped by 2 people during that time. I don't think I had ever felt so excited about finding in my entire mission. Møller and I were so pumped that we came up with a new plan, called "1-1-2 finding" (trademark). We determined that we would need to do a minimum of 1 hour door knocking, 1 hour street contacting, and 2 hours Facebook finding every day. This way, we could get out and about to run into people in the "real world" and use our handy smartphones to reach people in the "virtual world". Smart, ik?
We had a zone conference and it was centered on righteous goal setting and total companionship unity. It was great to be reminded that righteous goal setting included a thorough and careful plan to achieve our goals. It was also great to be reminded that total companionship unity could be found through working toward these goals. I thought to share the last line of a scripture I really liked from this conference. D&C 38:27 reads, ".. I say unto you, be one; and if ye are not one ye are not mine." Being one doesn't necessarily mean that you have to share the same opinions, personalities, hobbies or skills, but it does mean that you have to work together toward a common goal. Take some time to reflect and see if you can find common ground with others. God will be with you as you do so.
Skab en god uge,
Ældste Moore
