Week 48: Listen To The Trainer

Soaked to the bones 🌊
I simply cannot hold myself back from sharing a hilarious story that inspired the title. Ældste Møller got a flat tire and began inflating the innertube. I felt the hardness of the tire and told him to keep going until I let him know that it had enough air in it. He didn't listen so I shouted, "I think it's good!" He forcefully pushed down on the pump one last time and suddenly (#boom) the innertube exploded. Our ears were ringing for a few minutes and people were disappointedly staring at us from all directions. That's when I straight up stated, "Listen to the trainer!" XD

Along with this small setback, we had a few other shenanigans throughout the week. One time, Møller's chain wouldn't stop falling off so I had him grab the handle on my backpack. This way, we wouldn't have to take a break, flip the bike over, and fix the chain anymore. Another time, we were biking home and it rained cats and dogs out of the blue. We were soaked to the bone and yet we somehow found joy in the moment by loudly singing the notes of the Pokémon Red & Blue theme song. Another time, I got my haircut and noticed something was terribly wrong but couldn't figure out what it was. Luckily, my brain caught up and realized that I left my glasses in the barber shop. Hehe.. Another time, I found myself on splits with Millett attending both Odense 1. menighed and Odense 2. menighed. I got countless awkward looks from members that I said goodbye to and angry comments from members that I forgot to say goodbye to. Whoops - that's totally fine!

With the assignment to finish ældste Møllers training, we found ourselves busier than ever before (still in corona standards, however). We had several service projects that consisted of either moving furniture & boxes or doing garden work. We helped our neighbors, who conveniently happened to live on the top floor of our apartment building, move a bunch of things out of their penthouse. That was extremely exhausting but we had the opportunity to introduce ourselves along with some of our core beliefs before savoring homemade gooseberry pie. I'd say that's a job well done. We also helped Alice pull out wooden posts in her garden. It only took about 10 minutes but we enjoyed hearing Alice proudly describe her pioneer ancestry. We trimmed Lina's hedge that surrounded her backyard and taught her the Plan of Salvation. Møller and I teamed up, with him as the drawer and me as the describer. She answered with the typical "tak, men jeg har min egne tro" ("thanks, but I have my own faith"). We rode over to Isabella's storage unit to load a whole lot of hoarded junk into a rented trailer and unload it at her new house. Let's just say that we were dead tired most of the week.

We ran across the reincarnated version of Corihor the other day. He had messaged us that he wanted to meet and we didn't expect what came next. This man literally composed himself as a modern day anti-christ, saying that humans needed a sign to know of God's existence and that no mortal on the face of this earth could possibly know that there is a God or that Christ really came to redeem mankind. He also spoke of how our belief was simply passed down from our parents. This man's vocabulary was so complex that even Møller, a native Dane, could barely understand what he was saying. I didn't speak very much during this visit and Møller was doing as best he could to not engage. Every time we would explain our point of view, he would insist on hearing a "philosophical position" and we just couldn't satisfy that demand. We left with our testimony tested but strengthened. We agreed that it was good to be bold and defend our belief, but not to the point of arguing. We had done our best to invite him unto Christ and that's all we could do.

We had another Facebook workshop. It was pretty good. Søster Storm was our trainer again. She had us roll dice to pick topics to make posts about, stories about, talk in groups about, and message with friends about. We did this for an hour and then walked around for a light contacting session for an hour after. The final hour was spent with another competition. We would putt a golf ball into a cup and shoot hoops while the opposing team would try to send 3 messages on Facebook. The points were counted by the putts and shots made. Møller and I challenged Storm/Peterson and Millett/Harding challenged Nielsen/Paras. It was a great twist on the workshop and it luckily wasn't a carbon copy of our first competition we had (the one I organized).

I thought to close with a scripture I shared over video call with my family as they had the missionaries over for dinner. 1 Nephi 11:1 says, "For it came to pass after I had desired to know the things that my father had seen, and believing that the Lord was able to make them known unto me, as I sat pondering in mine heart I was caught away in the Spirit of the Lord, yea, into an exceedingly high mountain, which I never had before seen, and upon which I never had before set my foot." This scripture reminds us that (1) we need to desire to know things to learn about them, (2) we need to believe that the Lord will answer us, (3) we need to take time to ponder and listen for the Spirit, and (4) the temples and our own homes can become "exceedingly high mountain" to find refuge from the chaos of the world. I invite all to remember these 4 points and continue to apply them. I promise that these actions will bring blessings, whether you can see them or not.

Jeg elsker jer højt,
Ældste Moore
