Week 47: From 2 to 1

Shakas 😎

It was about 7:30am and suddenly the phone rang. Millett and I rushed to pick it up and we heard our favorite mission president's voice say, "Jeg er nok den gladeste person i missionen." We were quite puzzled at his spontaneous excitement for transfer calls but we rolled with it. President started by telling Millett that he would be remaining as the district leader and then played a little waiting game. There was a long, awkward silence and then he told me that I would be finishing ældste Møllers training. I was shocked because I would only be moving to another apartment in the lovely city of Odense AND I would be put together with Møller, who I had gotten to know fairly well from my time in Roskilde ward and Odense 2 ward. Looks like I get to see how Odense 1 is and what it feels like to live with the Dane who was destined for South Africa but got stuck with me instead. Just to blow your minds a little - Møller and I are going on 10 months of being in close vicinity of each other. He can never escape my fierce grasp! ;)

An ironic part of this new companionship is that we were on splits just the day before President called and we literally discussed the possibility of being companions. We were utterly clueless that our words were indeed prophecies. This conversation started when Møller got up with me to exercise, stretch, and meditate. He also was happy to plan out the day with me, which was a huge blessing. I was very grateful for his participation because unification was lacking a little bit in the fitness and planning categories beforehand. We also had our first lesson before we were officially comps as well. We taught a simplified version of the qualifications for youth baptism to Nicolaj, who is hoping to be baptized by his cousin Tommy either July 11th or July 18th. I trust the process to move forward, especially with Biskop Ilskov, ældste Millett, and now ældste Harding watching over it.

To begin the 4th of July, we helped one family move for way too long, haha. Millett and I were basically beasts of labor that pushed, pulled, carried, loaded, and unloaded for hours on end. We were so exhausted by the time we were done, but we were fed pizza outside in the rain. Luckily, the family had a balcony that Millett and I found shelter under. We then headed to the Baird farm to celebrate Independence Day. When we arrived, the rain disappeared but the clouds didn't disperse. They stayed put and we felt a few droplets here and there. We ate some hot dogs, potato salad, cole slaw, and chips to remember the good 'ol U-S-of-A. We then played some capture the flag with bows & soft-tipped arrows. Funny story.. I actually ended up tackling a poor teen because he ran up to me, grabbed the cocked arrow out of my bow, found the flag, and headed toward his base. I was so furious that I sprinted after him and "fell" right on top of him, LOL. There were some young women watching and I heard a faint, "That wasn't very missionary-like." I responded, "Yes, I know." What's the lesson here? Please do as I say and not as I do. ;)

We had yet another Facebook finding workshop. I was assigned as the Facebook coach and thought to mix it up a little bit. DL Millett gave a bomb training on mastering repetition with slight improvement. He reminded us that we do the simple things (prayer, scripture study, language study, Facebook finding, teaching, etc) over and over again, but that doesn't mean we can't tweak the method we do these things. I then shared Luke 14:23 to transition to the workshop. I compared highways to public places (streets, parks, stores) and hedges to private places (Facebook, houses). I also invited them to seek opportunities to invite people unto Christ during our Facebook finding session and our light contacting session. I then introduced a competition. We, as a district, then gave points, ranging between 5 and 30, to certain actions that can be done on Facebook - such as making a post/story, joining a group, writing a private message, and so on. There was a prize bag filled with chocolates and gummies and we determined that 1st place would pick 1st, 2nd place would pick 2nd, and so forth. It was a fun activity to remind the missionaries of how much they actually are doing.

I thought to share a scripture that I used for a spiritual thought in the Nørrungs backyard. This specific verse has helped me quite a bit during this pandemic. In Mosiah 4:27 we read, "And see that all these things are done in wisdom and order; for it is not requisite that a man should run faster than he has strength. And again, it is expedient that he should be diligent, that thereby he might win the prize; therefore, all things must be done in order." This is a bold reminder to work hard but to also avoid overworking myself. It's very common for me to think, "Am I doing enough?" The answer is yes, as long as I'm doing my best without doing beyond the breaking point. Jesus Christ makes up for all the mistakes I make and all the sins I commit, as I depend on Him and improve day by day. Never forget that you're doing more than you think and God will bless you to do even more.
