Week 45: Let's Get This Bread

District get together at Storms Pakhus 😋

I'm sure the vast majority of the audience has heard the slang term, "Let's get this bread." If you're out of the loop it basically means "let's do this". Our ZLs used this phrase cleverly in their training during our district meeting this week. Brown and Stowe brought some yummy temptations (cakes and other bready sweets), set them on a table right in front of us, and made a bargain with us. They said that if we did 20 reps of any exercise, then we would get rewarded with some delicious sweets. Everyone quickly did 20 reps of either squats, push-ups or dips and claimed the prize. Brown then explained the following equation: bread = joy & payment = bread & joy = ?. Stowe then explained the purpose of catalysts in reducing the amount of energy needed to get from one point to another. He used this to show that the joy = suffering x Atonement (the catalyst). It was pretty ingenious and I gave a violent golf clap to show how impressed I was. Let's get this bread or should I say, joy.

We were joyful to gather once again as a district for our first Facebook Workshop. We were all confused as to how this would work, but Søster Storm took the reigns as our "Facebook coach". She had us draw horrible stick figures of ourselves and put characteristics (both strengths and weaknesses), skills, and experiences that could help us reach out to a specific niche on Facebook. We then brainstormed ideas for a district post that we would all put on our pages. This lasted about an hour until we went to Storms Pakhus, a gigantic warehouse with many street food vendors, for lunch. I ordered a Mexican bowl cause I was craving some decent Mexican food. Boy, how I miss authentic comida mexicana! We came back to Odense's church building to put our ideas to work. We decided to attempt a challenge where people would tag 10 friends that they have missed during corona. Some people did it, but not too many..

Our car was dropped off at the shop to get some spare parts fixed. We walked all over the place - almost as much as we did before the pandemic crisis broke loose. We expected the repairs to take a few hours, as it is usually done in the States, but we were disappointed when it took two days. We did get some opportunities to help people while we were strolling around though so that was a bonus. People just wouldn't stop falling off their bikes. :o When we finally got our car back, we went to Nørresø for a hike with that Odense International Hikes group. George, Elder, and Lauma returned, and we met Jesper from Denmark and his wife Natasha from Ukraine, Olga from Russia, and Kalina from Bulgaria. These Europeans were a lot more curious about religion than most! XD We described our purpose as missionaries, explained the Word of Wisdom and the Law of Chastity (both of these come up so much in Denmark), and a few viewpoints of Jesus Christ. Having this hiking group has been a blessing because it's actually way easier to bring up religion in a natural and inoffensive manner in person.

I gave a talk in church. The subject was centered on being bold and courageous without being overbearing. I mentioned Joshua's final testimony found in Joshua 24 and compared it to Lehi's dream in 1 Nephi 8. I love Joshua 24:14-15 which says, "Now therefore fear the Lord, and serve him in sincerity and in truth: and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the flood, and in Egypt; and serve ye the Lord. And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." These verses astonished me exceedingly because Joshua was very straight-forward, yet he was polite at the same time. He told them that they had a choice, but that his own choice would always be to serve the Lord.

In Lehi's dream, he mentioned another river and another temptation. As Lehi stated in 1 Nephi 8:26,33, "And I also cast my eyes round about, and beheld, on the other side of the river of water, a great and spacious building; and it stood as it were in the air, high above the earth.. And great was the multitude that did enter into that strange building. And after they did enter into that building they did point the finger of scorn at me and those that were partaking of the fruit; but we heeded them not." It's obvious that those on the other side of the river were worshiping their own gods, such as money, power, idols, drugs, alocohol, sex, etc. Joshua and Lehi both warned us of what lied on the other side of the river so it's probably a good idea to stay on this side of the river. Will you heed the voice of the world or the voice of the Lord? What side will you choose?

Make a great week,
Ældste Moore
